The Oscar-winning documentary A Strong Clear Vision rose to the highly subtle challenge of letting designer Maya Lin speak for herself, as she does through her works ranging from the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. to the Women's Table at Yale University. TIME magazine's selection of David Ho as the 1996 "Man of the Year" was more about significant advances in a field of medical research than about the impact of a single person. Nevertheless, TIME's willingness to allow an Asian-American to represent the face of American leadership in AIDS research is noteworthy. The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan, a 1970s cartoon mystery series featuring the voice of Keye Luke, managed to caricature Asian Americans without distorting their characters. It sympathetically portrayed a large Chinese-American family as central protagonists in a multicultural America, without problematizing their race or invoking tired ethnic stereotypes. Unfortunately, it is rarely seen in syndication. Phil Guerrero, co-host of the Sci-Fi Channel's Anti-Gravity Room, presents cutting-edge entertainment products to a mainstream youth audience. He is a confident, capable interviewer who provides continuity and sustains interest in a television magazine covering a wide range of topics.
